Thermal-aware global real-time scheduling and analysis on multicore systems

چکیده
As the power density of modern electronic circuits increases dramatically, systems are prone to overheating. Thermal management has become a prominent issue in system design. This paper explores thermalaware scheduling for sporadic real-time tasks to minimize the peak temperature in a homogeneous multicore system, in which heat might transfer among some cores. By deriving an ideally preferred speed for each core, we propose global scheduling algorithms which can exploit the flexibility of multicore platforms at low temperature. We perform simulations to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach. 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

EcoMobile: Energy-aware Real-time Framework for Multicore Mobile Systems
In this paper, we propose a design and development plan to build an energy-aware framework for multicore mobile systems which extends Android with two features it lacks: fine-grain power management functionality and real-time support. We also provide three novel energy-aware real-time multicore scheduling algorithms to reduce both dynamic and leakage power consumptions. These algorithms address...
متن کاملCache-aware Interfaces for Compositional Real-Time Systems
Interface-based compositional analysis is by now a fairly established area of research in real-time systems. However, current research has not yet fully considered practical aspects, such as the effects of cache interferences on multicore platforms. This position paper discusses the analysis challenges and motivates the need for cache scheduling in this setting, and it highlights several resear...
متن کاملCache-aware static scheduling for hard real-time multicore systems based on communication affinities
The growing need for continuous processing capabilities has led to the development of multicore systems with a complex cache hierarchy. Such multicore systems are generally designed for improving the performance in average case, while hard real-time systems must consider worst-case scenarios. An open challenge is therefore to efficiently schedule hard real-time tasks on a multicore architecture...

JOHN MICHAEL CALANDRINO: On the Design and Implementation of a Cache-Aware Soft Real-Time Scheduler for Multicore Platforms (Under the direction of James H. Anderson) Real-time systems are those for which timing constraints must be satisfied. In this dissertation, research on multiprocessor real-time systems is extended to support multicore platforms, which contain multiple processing cores on ...
متن کاملEfficient Task Partitioning and Scheduling for Thermal Management in Multicore Processors
Power and heat density of integrated circuits (ICs) are rising exponentially over the years. The overheating of ICs leads to higher cost of cooling and packaging as well as reliability concerns and shorter lifetime. While existing task-partitioning based approaches are promising for reducing peak temperature in uniprocessor systems, there are no previous efforts in exploring temperature-aware t...
